Pax Villa (Izvorul Mureșului)

Among the properties confiscated by the Communist Regime, Pax Villa is the only one we managed to reclaim—through purchase— in the early 1990s. Nestled in the shade of pine forests, the house hosts a variety of programs, including spiritual retreats, camps, training sessions, and community events. A commemorative plaque on the villa’s wall preserves the memory of multiple visits by Piarist monk and poet Sándor Sík between 1941 and 1944.

The spirit of the surrounding landscape is beautifully captured in Sándor Sík’s poem Mineral Spring:

A mineral spring babbles at my feet,
The southern breeze sways pine tassels.
The rich Csík mountains around me
Send forth God’s image in waves.
Lord, my Lord, for such beauty,
Where can I find worthy words of gratitude?

Beyond, the cannons roar:
People yearning for bread and flowers
Writhe in suffering.
They destroy, they destroy God’s image!
For my life, for this day untouched,
Where can I find a song of blessing?

Rustle, little tufts of grass,
Do not think of death,
Flow, blessed springs.
I beg you, meadow flowers,
Forgive humankind:
They know not what they do!
