Prayer

For us, prayer is both a gift and a mission. Our life of prayer is rooted in the Holy Spirit, deeply ecclesial and liturgical. In keeping with our Benedictine traditions, we are committed to praying the Liturgy of the Hours (Divine Office), with the celebration of the Eucharist as its highest point.

Our contemplative spirit is also nurtured by the prayers of our Society. Each day, we invoke the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit in our prayers.

SPIRIT OF WISDOM:  Enkindle your light in us, that we may never lose sight of the “one thing necessary.” May we judge life’s events in the light of eternal truths and be guided by their principles in the use of passing earthly goods.

SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING:  Uncover for us the meaning of revealed truth. Beyond understanding these truths, give us also a sense for the spirit of your Church, and protect us from being led astray in our faith.

SPIRIT OF COUNSEL:  Help us to recognize and to follow in everything the will of God.

SPIRIT OF FORTITUDE:  Give us strength in temptation, patience in suffering, perseverance in the struggle against sin, and a wholehearted dedication in following our vocation.

SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE:  Deepen in us an inner knowledge, so that we know why we believe what we believe. Enable us to proclaim God’s truth and bear witness to it.

SPIRIT OF PIETY:  Develop the likeness of Christ within us. Mold us with your divine tenderness, so that we may bear witness to your Gospel with the simplicity of a child, with single-hearted devotion and serenity, with holy joy and kindness, and with the freedom of the children of God.

SPIRIT OF FEAR OF THE LORD: Pour into our hearts a holy reverence for the Divine, and for God’s gifts of graces.
